Local search is the work of making Google trust that you are a real, active, well-reviewed business serving a specific part of Guelph. Done properly, it produces calls at a lower cost than any ad, and it keeps producing them when you are too busy to think about marketing.
We handle the marketing side only. We are not a contractor, so we never do the trade work; we make sure people searching in Guelph can find, check and contact your crew.
What local search is, in plain terms
Google's own help page names three things that decide local results: relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is whether your profile and site clearly match what someone typed. Distance is how far you are from the person searching. Prominence is how well known and well reviewed you are, both online and off.
You can't move your shop, so distance is mostly fixed. The work is on relevance and prominence, and on making sure the area you claim matches the area you can actually serve.
For a Guelph trade, that usually means being strongest across the wards close to your base, solid across the rest of the city, and visible in Puslinch or Guelph/Eramosa only if you really drive there regularly.
Who this is for
- Trades whose Google Business Profile was set up once and never maintained.
- Businesses that show up well in one part of the city but vanish a few kilometres away.
- Owners who changed their name, address, phone number or services and never updated every listing.
- Newer companies that have good work to show but almost no presence in search yet.
- Storefront and showroom businesses downtown that need correct hours, categories and directions.
It is less useful if you already have a full schedule from referrals and simply want to hold steady. In that case, a light review system may be all you need, and we'll tell you so.
What's included
- Profile audit and clean-up. Primary and secondary categories, services, service area, hours, photos, business description and the questions-and-answers section, all checked against what you really do.
- Service-area planning. We map your last year of jobs by postal code and set a service area you can serve with reasonable drive times, instead of a vague 50-kilometre circle.
- Citations and consistency. Your business name, phone number and website matched across the directories and data sources Google cross-checks.
- Service and area pages. Pages on your website for each main service, plus pages for parts of the city only where you have real jobs, photos or notes to show. No thin pages that swap one neighbourhood name for another.
- Photo and post routine. A simple monthly habit for adding real job photos and short updates, so your profile looks alive.
- Review integration. Links to the reviews and referrals work, since reviews are a large part of prominence.
Timeline
- Weeks 1–2: audit, job-map analysis and agreed priorities.
- Weeks 3–6: profile corrections, citation fixes and the first service pages.
- Months 2–4: area pages where justified, photo routine, review flow running.
- Month 4 onward: monthly adjustments based on what's producing calls.
Some fixes show up quickly, such as a wrong category or missing hours. Steady gains in a competitive trade take longer, and we won't pretend otherwise.
How we measure it
We don't report on vanity numbers. Each month you get a short summary covering:
- calls, website visits and direction requests from your profile;
- which search terms triggered your listing;
- tracked phone calls and texts from the website, by page;
- review count and average rating over time;
- a sample of map results checked from several points around Guelph, such as near Downtown, the south end and the west side.
If the numbers aren't moving after a fair period, we say so and change the plan.
Mistakes we see Guelph trades make
- Listing every town within an hour's drive. Claiming Hamilton or Brampton doesn't move you up the map there. It just invites calls you don't want.
- Using a keyword-stuffed business name. Adding "Best Guelph Plumber" to your profile name breaks Google's guidelines and can get the listing suspended.
- Copy-paste area pages. Twenty pages that differ only by neighbourhood name look like spam to Google and to customers.
- Ignoring the Q&A section. Customers can ask public questions on your profile. Unanswered ones look like nobody's home.
- Changing phone numbers casually. Every number change breaks consistency across listings and takes months to clean up.

Frequently asked questions
How long before local search work shows results in Guelph?
Profile corrections can change what customers see within a few weeks. Steady gains in competitive trades usually take several months of consistent pages and reviews. Nobody can honestly promise a particular ranking by a particular date.
I work from home. Will Google show my address?
Not if you don't want it to. A business that visits customers can keep its street address private on Google and name its service areas in its place. We set this up to match Google's guidelines for your situation.
Should I list Kitchener, Cambridge and Milton as service areas too?
Only if you genuinely work there often. A huge service radius doesn't make you rank farther away on the map, and it can attract calls you then turn down, which wastes everyone's time.
Can you pay Google to rank us higher on the map?
No. Google states that you cannot request or pay for a better local ranking. Map position comes from relevance, distance and prominence, which is where we put the work.
